Will QR Codes reach a tipping point in the United States? WhatTheyThink.com does a nice job weighing in on topic today. (FYI, It’s a premium article)

As mainstream America becomes exposed to them, the awareness and usage will certainly increase.

This is a great example of how they are starting to be pushed to the masses. This spot on the CBS News aired in late March 2010. They focus on how QR Codes are being used in Advertising.
