QR Codes at the Penny-Arcade Expo

One of my former colleagues (who is also a humongous fan of video games) recently shared this QR Code story with me.

“I wanted to let you know about a cool use of QR codes I saw. I went to the Penny-Arcade Expo (PAX). There were naturally QR codes at several booths in the exhibit hall, but in addition to that, they had a QR code game running through out the conference.

In the conference program they tell you that there would be something like 32 QR codes around the conference. Each one would lead you to a website that gives a letter in a phrase. Once you get the whole phrase, you turn it in to a certain booth to get a key chain or something. Another cool part of it though was that the codes were not all available at once. Every now and then a post would appear on the convention twitter page saying something like ‘A new code has spawned at the X booth.'”

I think that this is a fairly creative way to incorporate QR Codes into the trade show experience.

I searched around the web and found a number of articles and discussion boards that also mentioned this campaign.

Here is one that has more information on the game >>
